The Y-adapter cable allows you to power from 12 volts DC, 110 volts AC, or from batteries inside the TV monitor.  Both the monitor and the probe require 12 volt DC power from one of theses sources.  The Y-adapter connectors fit only one way--each end is different size.  Check to be sure all connectors are seated snug in their sockets before applying power to the cable.

Using Internal Batteries

To power the system from monitor batteries (not included), use only the Y-Adapter.  If you wish to use rechargeable (NiCad) batteries, you can use the 110v AC Adapter to recharge them overnight, without removing them from the TV Monitor.  Battery life is maximum of 6 hours, with an average of 4 hours in most cases.  NiCad batteries hold steady until they are discharged, while alkaline batteries taper off gradually and may cause erratic pictures.  We do not recommend "standard" carbon-zinc batteries for this application.  DO NOT attempt to recharge alkaline or carbon batteries with the AC adapter.

Monitor Switches

These are general instructions.  Please refer to your product manual for specific switches and controls.

    *  Make sure the "TV-Radio" switch is set to "TV."
    *  Set the switch on the back panel to "AV."

12 Volt Accessory
PowerPak

Pictured here is a 12 volt accessory pack sold by Target Store under the "Great Land" label.  We recommend this accessory for operating the SeaView system on portable battery power.

Monitor Hood Installation
HoodStep1

First, lay the hood out flat with the Velcro strips facing up.

Second, carefully bend each side upwards along the scored lines.  For best results attaching the Velcro strips to the monitor, wipe down the top and sides with a soft cloth moistened in rubbing alcohol.

HoodStep2

Remove the paper liner from the center Velcro strip, exposing the adhesive.  Leave the paper on the side strips.  We'll remove those in a moment.

Carefully position the hood on the monitor, with the edge just in front of the handle. Press in place.

VelcroStrip
HoodStep3

1. Press down firmly to stick the center Velcro strip securely to the top of the monitor.
2. Make sure the cutout for the TV turning now fits properly around the side of the monitor.
3. Remove paper liner from the right-side Velcro strip and press it firmly into place.
4. Do the same thing with the left-side Velcro strip.  Installation is complete.

HoodStep4

To remove the hood, pull the hook part and the loop part of the Velcro strips away from each other, using a gentle pulling motion.
NOTE:  Extremely hot weather and direct sunlight may soften adhesive, allowing the Velcro strip to be pulled off the monitor.  Take the unit out of the sun and let is cool down before removing the hood.

Testing Your System

We recommend that you test your system at home before taking it out on the water.  Familiarize yourself with the hookups and carious controls.

Color Cameras:  After completing the hookup, turn everything on.  You should see a picture on the TV Monitor.  You may need to adjust the picture controls (brightness, contrast, hue, etc.) for view conditions.  If your hookup connections are OK and you have others problems, go to the Troubleshooting section of this site.

Infrared B/W Cameras:  After completing the hookup, turn everything on.  You should see a picture on the TV monitor. You may need to adjust the picture controls (brightness, contrast) for viewing conditions.

Testing the InfraRed System:  The IR-CAM system uses "white" infrared, a special range of invisible light.  You cannot verify the IR is working by looking at the camera probe.  You must use a TV monitor when checking the IR function.

With everything connected and power on, place the probe inside its case and close the lid.  You should see no change in the brightness on the TV monitor.  An alternate method is putting the probe in a dark closet.  You should see a brighter spot in the area of the infrared beam.  If your hookup connections are OK and you have others problems, go to the Troubleshooting section of this site.
